Top 10 reasons for failing a lorry test

Failing to look properly at junctions and reversing are the top reasons people failed their medium and large lorry tests during the past year (April 2018 to March 2019). The most common faults made during Category C and CE driving tests between April 2018 and March 2019 were:

  1. Junctions - observation

  2. Reverse - Control

  3. Control - steering

  4. Mirrors - change direction

  5. Move off - safely

  6. Response to signs - traffic lights

  7. Junctions - turning right

  8. Awareness/planning

  9. Judgement - meeting

  10. Response to signs - traffic signs

Failing to look properly at a junction is the most common serious or dangerous test fault and the largest cause of accidents in Britain. While not controlling the lorry effectively when reversing accounted for just under a quarter of serious and dangerous faults on test.
