This page is a simple step by step flow chart that will hopefully show you the route to getting your HGV driving licence, from having a HGV medical, getting your HGV provisional licence, and taking HGV driving test.

Starting my new journey

HGV medical (D4 Form)

You will to have a medical by your own GP or an independent doctor and they will fill out a D4 form

 provisional HGV Licence    (D2 Form)

You will need to complete a D2 form for the HGV, LGV, or PSV provisional entitlement to be applied to your licence  

Apply for your hgv provisional entitlement 

You will need to send the following documents to the DVLA :- both the completed D2 and D4 forms and your full driving licence.

These must be sent to the DVLA, Swansea, sa99 1bn.

Book my HGV theory test

before you can take your HGV practical on road test you must pass your hgv theory test. you can book this online www.gov.uk/book-theory-test or we can include this in your training costs.

(if you are already driving vehicle or hold a HGV licence you will not need to take this test)

Book my hgv hazard perception test

before you can take your HGV practical on road test you must pass your hgv Hazard perception test. you can book this online www.gov.uk/book-theory-test or we can include this in your training costs.

Book my HGV practical training

once you have completed the 5 steps you can start your practical training. Blue Triangle Training Ltd provide practical class 1, class 2 and 7.5t hgv / lgv training course for both the hgv reversing excercise ( module 3a ) test and practical on road ( module 3b ) test.

Do I need my drivers CPC and how do I get it

If you are going to drive a HGV vehicle professionally you will need a Drivers qualification card (DQC). The drivers Drivers qualification card is proof  of drivers CPC and should be carried whenever you are driving a hgv vehicle professionally. there are some exemptions to this rule emergency vehicle divers and armed forces for example. New drivers need to take and pass both the module 2 initial CPC case study and the module 4 initial CPC practical tests before you receive your DQC.​​

before you can take your HGV Module 4 Practical test you must pass your hgv Module 2 Case study test. you can book this online www.gov.uk/book-theory-test or we can include this in your training costs.

 you must pass your HGV Module 2 Case study test before taking the module 4 practical test. you can book with Blue Triangle Training Ltd at an extra cost or we can include this in your training course costs.
